Rogers moved away from the pessimistic views of human\u00a0nature put forward by Sigmund\u00a0Freud to a more experiential or phenomenological view.<\/p>\n
Freud believed that the human condition was involved in a constant battle between the Id Ego and Super-ego<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Rogers’ Person-Centred theory, on the other hand, is based on what he described as the Phenomenal Field<\/a><\/strong>. Hence perceptions of taste, sound and how we experience\u00a0the world are as individual as ourselves.<\/p>\n
A brief description of phenomenological movement will make it clear why Rogers’ theory and practice has been linked in this way.<\/p>\n
Developed at the beginning of the 19th Century by German philosophers Edmund Husserl<\/a> and Martin Heidegger<\/a>, the phenomenological movement believed that reality consisted\u00a0of objects and events, which they called ‘phenomena’<\/em><\/strong> ,which represents our conscious <\/em>perception of reality.<\/p>\n\t
